Residency in Dermatology

The Department of Dermatology’s Residency Program is accredited by the American Council of Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). Potential dermatology residents must have completed a transitional year or a post graduate year in a primary care field, such as Surgery, Internal Medicine or Family Medicine, before they can begin the three-year dermatology program. UNM Dermatology was one of ten programs to receive this competitive grant from the AAD. All residents treat patients under the direct supervision of the faculty. They participate in weekly conferences including text and actual case material (click here for complete description of required conferences). Local community physicians, such as dermatopathologists, lecture to the residents in order to broaden their education. Residents are encouraged to attend and present at local and national conferences.
