Alex TriVantage Frequently Asked Questions

Am I a good candidate for Alex TriVantage laser treatment?

A good candidate for treatment with the Alex TriVantage laser should meet these criteria:

  • Is not recently tanned.
  • Is not currently on Accutane (isotretinoin) therapy.
  • Is not pregnant.
  • Does not have a history of light triggered seizures.
  • Does not have an active skin infection or recurrent cold sores.
  • Does not have implanted medical devices such as pacemakers, cardioverters, etc.
  • Does not have a history of photosensitivity (allergy or strong sensitivity to light).
  • For tattoos, dark colors (blue, black, brown) on fair skin tend to respond best. Pastel colors and amateur tattoos may be harder to treat and may never fully clear.
What is the typical price range of a Alex TriVantage laser treatment?

Treatments with the Alex TriVantage laser typically range from $300 to $620 or more per treatment depending upon the size of the area being treated. This pricing is subject to change and exact pricing will be determined in consult with one of our dermatologists. Often a spot test is recommended to determine appropriate response before treating the entire area. For more information and to set up a consultation, please contact the UNM Hospital Dermatology Clinic at (505) 272-6222.

What is the typical number of treatments necessary with the Alex TriVantage laser?

For most skin conditions treatable by the Alex Trivantage laser (such as pigmented birthmarks and tattoos), the typical number is 8-12 treatments in intervals of one treatment every 4-6 weeks. However some conditions such as age spots/sun spots may respond with fewer treatments.

What can I expect from treatment with the Alex TriVantage laser?

The treatment is mildly uncomfortable, depending on settings used. Afterward, most patients have mild redness and irritation and sometimes swelling in the treated areas. For tattoo treatment, the treated area is usually crusted/scabbed. Patients should expect to care for the area treated by the Alex TriVantage carefully for the first 4-7 days following treatment. Makeup may be applied to the area a few days after treatment. In addition, SPF 30 or higher sunblock should be used regularly. Barrier ointment such as Vaseline may also be helpful after treatment with the Alex TriVantage laser.
